The University of Sfax is located in Sfax, Tunisia. It was founded in 1986, named the University of the South. The university campus is of urban type and is located in the vicinity of Sfax. University of Sfax is one of the best universities in Tunisia, taking its rightful place among the top 5 educational institutions of the country. Now it is divided into three separate public universities: the University of Sfax, the University of Gabes, which joined in 2003 and the University of Gafsa, which joined in 2004.The University of Sfax has several partnerships with large corporations and cooperates academically in research and exchange programmes with foreign universities in several countries like France, Canada, Belgium and Morocco.
The city of Sfax (southeastern Tunisia) has lived, for more than 60 years, a very special environmental situation. Now a transportation hub and a market for the phosphates of the Gafsa (Qafṣah) region, with which it is connected by rail, Sfax is one of Tunisia’s largest cities, a main outlet for the country’s central and southern regions, and a major fishing port with fish canneries. Ferries to the Kerkenah Islands leave from Sfax, and the nearby airport handles some international flights. Sfax has become an important commercial and industrial centre, with modern industrial zones and an expanding population.
