Education at the university takes place in close collaboration with the outside world and research. Dalarna University (Swedish: Dalarna University) is a public university (university) located in Falun and Borlange, two areas in the secluded Dalarna County, in Sweden.

Dalarna University is one of the newest universities in Sweden, founded in 1977. It is located in Dalarna, 200 km northwest of Stockholm, and takes its name from the city.

In Sweden, Dalarna University is known as a leader in the integration of new teaching methods in technology and education. Its international students like to immediately enjoy the fun of nature and outdoor adventure, and often comment on the unique experience provided by studying in a small city like this.

Dalarna University offers Sweden's only master's degree in solar technology (the first solar technology course in Europe).

They also offer master's degree programs in business, computer science, sustainable tourism, energy-efficient buildings, materials science, and economics.

Dalarna University is so different because of the concept of intimacy: the close connection between students and teachers, and you are always close to adventure. S

ince its establishment in 1977, Dalarna University has undergone rapid development and has now become a base for approximately 15,000 students with nearly 800 employees. Our two campuses-one in Falun and one in Borlänge-offer a wide range of educational opportunities.

The university strives to create an environment based on the equal value of individuals. Regardless of external factors, everyone should have the opportunity to receive higher education.

Promoting this fact is that they have developed a virtual campus to achieve flexible learning wherever you are and when you can learn.

They also provide open web-based learning forums and environments, and many of their resources are available 24 hours a day. With the help of digital technology, DU has created a sustainable global meeting place for personal development and educational opportunities.

In terms of research, the close cooperation of the university with the corporate world, including the public sector, means that DU’s research is current and relevant. Applied research ensures that high quality is maintained.

DU’s research profile involves researchers from multiple departments in Sweden and other countries, regions, as well as researchers from other universities.

Dalarna University is a small but dynamic university that welcomes diversity and innovation. It has approximately 750+ (full-time and part-time) employees and is one of the largest employers in Dalarna Province.

International Co-operation

Dalarna University collaborates with the outside world in several different ways, both in Dalarna, in the rest of Sweden, and internationally.

Through collaboration, real challenges in companies and other businesses become interesting and developing projects for our students and researchers.

It can be about everything from exchanging experiences, solving specific problems and challenges together, to developing the university's programs, and implementing major research projects through industry councils.

The activities that collaborate with us gain access to scientifically based knowledge and resources, at the same time as our researchers and students are offered the opportunity for valuable knowledge and experiences that our collaboration partners possess.

Collaboration, therefore, becomes something that strengthens and develops all parties involved.

Postgraduate education and Research

The university offers three doctoral programs where you as a doctoral student have the opportunity to develop in a creative and strong research environment.

About Falun and Borlänge

Dalarna County (county) borders Norway in the west and occupies a large area of land in central Sweden. It extends about 350 kilometers southeast from the remote and rugged terrain of Grövelsjön and Idre in the northwest, which means it is far away from the Stockholmers’ holiday.

At its core is the gleaming water of Lake Siljan, which looks like a mirror in the midsummer sun, surrounded by fabulous forests and rolling hills, dotted with perfect red huts that depict Sweden’s Life in the country. Dalarna is also the origin of the iconic painted Dalahäst, which is the center of Swedish folklore.

Falun is the county capital with a world heritage copper mine, and there are opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the year. The village of Tällberg must be stored in the painted horse outside Mora, in the village of Nusnäs.

Borlänge is a multicultural city with a high pace and nice people. Here you meet a modern environment that breathes music and creativity. Borlänge municipality offers many different events, museums, and activities for all ages all year round. Are you interested in what's going on right now? Visit the Borlänge municipality's website online for more information and see if there is something just for you.

Falun is a small town with a big heart. A cozy environment and a vibrant cultural life make the city a place where you as a student will quickly feel at home. Here tradition meets the modern and you get the best of both worlds. In Falun, you quickly get through the city center, but there are still a lot of activities and entertainment. You can find current information about events, activities, and entertainment on Falun’s municipality's website.
